TODAY is Random Acts of Kindness Day

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, part of R.A.K. Week that goes through Sunday of this week.  The idea is for everyone to do one nice thing for another person and start a tidal wave of kindness that become contagious until people stop being huge jerks to each other.**  It's also a great excuse to just be nice for the day.   

(**Those may not be their exact words.)

Here are some ideas for your random act of kindness:

• give a stranger a compliment
• do the dishes for your spouse
• let that car merge ahead of you
• smile at a stranger
• forgive someone
• call a friend you know is going through a rough patch

It doesn't take much to make someone feel special and to change the whole course of their day.  Try it out, it'll probably put a smile on your face also.

When I'm mad I'm not looking for sympathy, I don't need the sage advice of an elder and I certainly don't want to hear the voice of reason.

 

What I need is for my friends to be outraged at the incredible injustice that I've had to face. I need them to fly off the handle if I've had to wait too long to get coffee. I want a table flipped if my boss wouldn't give me the day off. I want promises of hell fire any time I've been even the tiniest bit inconvenienced.  This is how I will know you're my friend.

 

And then I want to say thank you. Thank you for your outrage.

I guess it's inevitable that if you leave a drawing out for any number of days, eventually it's going to get fangs drawn on it.  This experiment has proved that it takes about 55-60 days for that to occur.

Lex's Robot Paintings

These robots were painted for Little Alexander (who will be called Lex in preparation for his eventual conquer of the free world) in Denver.  He's not born yet but when he is I'm sure he's going to be stoked. 

Paintings done in acrylic paint on wood and distressed by hand to give them an aged impression.  Each piece comes with a sawtooth hanger on the back, ready to be hung in Little Lex, our future leader's nursery.

Lace Stencil Tutorial

 As promised, here is the lace stencil tutorial from a painting I made last week.  It's a super easy way to make it look like you really put a lot of time into a project without having to, ya know, really put a lot of time into a project.

Step 1:
To begin this project, gather your supplies:

- I used another painting I had started that was turning out rather lackluster and needed some Umf!  You could also use a blank canvas, some old wood, a frame that needs a makeover, your shoes, anything really.
-tape
- a piece of lace
-some spray paint
-a well ventilated work area

Is this appropriate?

Custom speech bubble made for my pattern loving housemate.

See, my housemate, Liv, is a first year art teacher and dressing for the classroom is new to her.  Because of that, once a morning, every morning she comes to my doorway dressed in her newest creation and asks me the question, "Is this appropriate?"

The funny thing is that I'm not exactly a tweed-pants-owning, beige-cardigan wearer either.  It's basically the blind leading the blind in my house.  We seem to be making due though...neither of us have been pink slipped yet!!  (Knock on wood!)

The design on this guy was created by covering the canvas in lace and spray painting over it.  Tutorial to follow.

My First Solo Show!!

 If you're sensitive to the overuse of exclamation points, you're going to want to stop reading this cause I'm wicked excited and I just can't hide it! As I previously mentioned my "other" Etsy store, The Compliment Shop, was invited to hang our goods at the Red Table Cafe & Gallery in Old Town Fort Collins last month.

I shipped off the last of 'em about a week ago and I was just sent pictures of them in their new home!!

I'm basically freaking out.

In other news, I've decided I'm counting this as my first solo art show.
Even though there are other artist's wares all over Red Table and even though it's really more of a craft show than an art show and even though there is no free wine or cheese...it's my party and I'll call it what I want to.

Now go to the Red Table, buy a Compliment & order something that has Corn Relish on it cause it's SOOOOO good!!!!!!! Pin It

Chocolate Wasted!

I haven't even seen the movie this painting references and readily admit that I probably won't however, that doesn't make me immune to the cultural phenomenon it's responsible for.  This 33 second clip  has it's own facebook fan page, website and was added to urbandictionary.com faster than anything I've ever seen.

In short, it's kind of a big deal. 

So, to celebrate, I made it into a quote bubble...it was inevitable.
